Second Battle of Heligoland Bight

Second Battle of Heligoland Bight

17 November 1917, Heligoland Bight

Indecisive

British cruisers attacked German minesweepers working in the Bight. The German light cruisers covering them laid smoke and drew the British towards their minefields and two waiting battleships. Repulse set Königsberg on fire, a German shell killed Calypso's bridge crew, and when Kaiser and Kaiserin came up the British withdrew. One German minesweeper was sunk.
