Ula sinks U-974

Ula sinks U-974

19 April 1944, Boknafjord, near Stavanger

Norwegian success; U-974 sunk

The Norwegian submarines working from Dundee spent the war off their own coast, sinking the coastal shipping the Germans depended on in occupied Norway. On 19 April 1944 Ula, under Lieutenant Valvatne, was lying in wait in the Boknafjord north of Stavanger when U-974 came past. Ula torpedoed and sank her; eight of the fifty men aboard were saved.
