USS Peacock vs HMS Epervier

USS Peacock vs HMS Epervier

29 April 1814, Off Cape Canaveral, Florida

American victory; Epervier captured

Lewis Warrington's new ship-sloop Peacock met the brig-sloop Epervier escorting a small convoy north from Havana. Epervier's crew was poorly trained and her carronades kept breaking loose from their mountings; in about 45 minutes she was badly holed and her rigging cut to pieces, while Peacock was hardly scratched. Epervier struck, and with her came $118,000 in coin. Warrington brought his prize into Savannah, escaping two British frigates on the way.
