Battle of Manila Bay

Battle of Manila Bay

1 May 1898, Cavite, Manila Bay, Philippines

Decisive American victory

Dewey's squadron ran past the entrance batteries in the dark and found Admiral Montojo's older ships anchored off Cavite. In a few hours of firing, broken by a pause for breakfast, the Spanish squadron was burned, sunk or scuttled. No American ship was seriously damaged.
