Battle of the Mona Passage

Battle of the Mona Passage

19 April 1782, Mona Passage, between Hispaniola and Puerto Rico

British victory; two ships of the line taken

Rodney had not pursued after the Saintes, and Hood, who thought twenty French ships might have been taken, was sent after the stragglers. In the Mona Passage he caught two damaged ships of the line and two frigates on their way to join the Spanish at Cap-Français. HMS Valiant took both Jason and Caton, and the frigate Aimable and the corvette Cérès were taken too.
