Taken over by the new empire at Rio

Built at Bahia for the Portuguese navy and launched in 1763 as Santo António e São José, later Infante D. Pedro Carlos and Martim de Freitas. Taken over by Brazil in 1822 and made the flagship of the new navy, she carried Cochrane's flag at the Battle of 4 May, in the pursuit of the Bahia convoy and at São Luís, where her arrival alone was enough to make Maranhão surrender. Too decayed to sail by 1832, she was a prison hulk until she was broken up at Rio in 1833.
