Captured at Lake Champlain

Frigate built at Isle aux Noix and rushed into action with workmen still aboard; the biggest warship on the lake. Captain George Downie was killed by an overturned gun early in the action, and when Saratoga winded to bring a fresh broadside to bear, Confiance could not do the same and struck. Taken into the US Navy and laid up at Whitehall.
