Captured at Lagos

74-gun ship, at Ushant in 1778, Fort Royal, the Chesapeake, St Kitts and the Saintes. Built at Toulon as the Centaure and captured at Lagos in 1759. Taking the César at the Saintes was her last fight: she foundered in the hurricane off the Grand Banks in September 1782, and her captain, John Inglefield, was one of only a dozen men saved in her pinnace.
